What JustFOIA handles

JustFOIA, an MCCi brand, is a records request platform built around intake and tracking: request landing pages and electronic forms, workflow tasks and assignments, due dates you can customize and pause, correspondence templates for status updates and fee notices, departmental discussions and reporting.
Per JustFOIA's materials, it also offers document redaction. Users can redact manually or apply automated redactions driven by patterns configured at setup, select redaction reasons from pre-written options, share drafts for review and approval before redactions are burned in, and rely on a redaction audit log. Its email module extracts PST files into individual messages and removes duplicates. For audio and video, JustFOIA documents an integration with Veritone Redact under a separate license.

The questions that sort it out
Three questions for any redaction tool. Ours included.
Redaction features vary more than brochures suggest. The same questions separate the tools quickly.
Does the automation read the content, or apply patterns configured at setup? Patterns are very good at formatted strings like Social Security and phone numbers. Ask what finds the exempt material written in plain sentences.
Who approves each mark, by name? Ask whether the finished record shows a person deciding every individual redaction, not just a sign-off on the document as a whole.
Is release gated? Ask what happens when someone tries to release while a mark is still undecided.

Do we have to replace JustFOIA?

No connection is needed. You export the set, review it in RecordBeacon, then attach the released files back like any other file. Nothing to install, no IT project.
We already use JustFOIA's redaction. Why add anything?
Keep using what works. The honest test is the three questions above: what reads the material written in plain sentences, who approves each mark by name, and whether release is gated.
